Almost everywhere, you make the book yourself.
At the others you first choose a size, from six to sixteen, and then open an editor or app. The difference is how far they get you started. Some begin at a blank page, most put your photos in the book for you, a few make an automatic proposal. You finish it yourself everywhere.
foto foto starts at the other end. We design the book and keep the range small: we curate the options and you choose from them. We group near-duplicates, make a first selection and design the order, the layout and the cover from your photos.

What it costs
A standard photo book with 24 pages costs €30, with €0.50 per extra page on glossy paper. On matte paper an extra page costs €0.65 and on fine art paper €0.80. A layflat book starts at €35, with €0.90 to €1.20 per extra page, and a linen cover adds €10. Shipping starts at €7 for the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and the US.
From-prices say little, because they apply to the thinnest book you can order. Most photo books are thicker: at foto foto half of the books have 74 pages or more, and one in three has 100 or more. So this is what the same book costs at 100 pages: a portrait hardcover near A4, the size every service sells, in its least expensive standard version.

Why foto foto
At foto foto the book is finished when you open it. You add your photos, we make the selection, the order, the layout and the cover, and you change what you want changed.
We keep the range small on purpose. We curate the options, the size, the paper and the cover, and you choose from them. There is one size, and you choose a standard or layflat book, a smooth or linen cover and glossy, matte or fine art paper. We print in Germany, and about a week after you order the book lands on your doormat.
Which photo book is best?
It depends on how much you want to do yourself. foto foto selects your photos and creates the order, layout and cover, and you can change the book before ordering. If you want to design it yourself or want more sizes, the other services' editors suit you better. Fotofabriek writes that it won the Tips Fotoalbum Maken photo book test and scored 8.2 at AVROTROS Radar. CEWE, Pixum, smartphoto and albelli list awards and test results on their own sites. foto foto has not been tested independently yet. Customer reviews are on Trustpilot.
Which photo book is cheapest?
At 100 pages you pay the least at foto foto (€68.00), then at Kruidvat (€73.87). The lowest from-price is €25.99 at Kruidvat, for 16 pages. That is for a portrait hardcover near A4, regular prices including VAT, without shipping and discounts.
What does a photo book cost?
At foto foto a standard book costs €30 with 24 pages and a layflat book €35. At the others the same book starts at €25.99 (Kruidvat, 16 pages). The highest from-price is €44 (Profotonet, 22 pages). With 100 pages you pay €68 at foto foto and €73.87 to €143.45 at the others. Shipping to the Netherlands costs €7 at foto foto and €4.50 to €6.99 at the others.
